Corporate Social Responsibility

Effective management of safety, health, environment, quality, energy, carbon reduction, and responsible sourcing is of key importance to the sustained success of the KST group of companies.

We have a single Sustainability Policy, which is regularly reviewed and communicated to colleagues, contractors, visitors, key stakeholders and our supply chain to inform and promote wider adoption of responsible practices.  As a minimum, we comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Co-operation in the effective implementation of the policy is a condition of employment, partnership and supply.

Sustainability

Concern for the environment lies at the core of our company’s ethos.

We recognise our role in promoting a broader sustainability agenda in the security sector and empowering our customers incorporate sustainable approaches into their business activities.

Our core objectives are to:

  • Prevent pollution
  • Reduce waste
  • Keep carbon emissions to a minimum

Here are some of the measures we have already implemented:

  • Utilising video conferencing in lieu of physical meetings
  • Implementing telemetry to make every journey as efficient as possible
  • Introducing hybrid/electric vehicles into our fleet
  • Recycling 95% of our head office waste
  • Incorporating biodegradable plastics across our supply chain to minimize waste sent to landfill
  • Upgrading to energy efficient equipment and lighting across our estate to reduce electricity consumption by 14%.

KST operates an ISO 14001 accredited environmental management system that acts as the foundation of our approach.

Supporting Charities, both National and Local!

Our Corporate Charity for 2023!

We’re delighted to announce that our Corporate Charity for 2023 is Macmillan Cancer Support. Chosen by our colleagues, Macmillan’s purpose is to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.

Tackling hate crime

KST operates in West Yorkshire and the West Midlands, areas which have the highest concentration of BAME people living in them in the UK outside of London. Our business serves a very diverse community and we are proud to do so. In 2017, there were 68,000 racially or religiously motivated acts of aggression committed across the UK. We did our part to combat hate crime in our local community by installing 32 high-definition CCTV cameras around the Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Bradford which was suffering attacks of vandalism believed to be racially/religiously motivated.

Oasis Community Housing

Oasis Community Housing exists to reignite hope and a future for everyone facing homelessness.  They believe in prevention and intervention. The charity’s four cornerstones services – Basis, Home, Empower, Aspire – address the immediate needs of the people they support and tackle the root causes of homelessness.  They meet people where they are at and walk with them side by side, ensuring support is tailored to each individual and led by the latest trauma-informed practice. Oasis Community Housing’s services across Gateshead, Newcastle, London, South Tyneside and Sunderland. Find out more about Oasis Community Housing here.

CATCH

CATCH is a Leeds-based project which provides volunteering opportunities and community engagement to children and young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds. With over 1000 members, CATCH runs one of the largest youth clubs in Leeds, hosting a range of provisions including sports, arts, mentoring and community outreach work.

We saw an opportunity to support CATCH’s amazing work by securing their premises with an intruder alarm system. CATCH is consistently acquiring new premises from which to carry out their work – recently, for example, KST donated and fitted brand new intruder alarm coverage for a food bank housed in a refurbished double-decker bus.  Find out more about CATCH here.

Barnardo’s

KST has joined forces with leading children’s charity Barnardo’s to help disrupt child exploitation and sex trafficking in the Bradford night-time economy. With our extensive network of security officers across the UK, we recognised that we had the opportunity to help to protect vulnerable children in Bradford by linking with Barnardo’s Trusted Relationships Group Work (TRGW) initiative. The team from TRGW are working with KST security personnel, initially in the West Yorkshire region, teaching them how to identify the signs of child exploitation and sex trafficking and how to help if they come across evidence of child exploitation and sex trafficking occurring. Find out more about Barnardo’s here.

Fair Treatment

We will provide employment and economic activity using local sourcing and local businesses where practical and build our own business on the basis of responsible practices.  We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and are determined to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable.

What our Customers say

We wanted a smart-looking, contactless approach to access control here at Little Dot. We love the Openpath solution proposed by KST; it’s sleek, simple to use and has excellent reporting features. What’s more, KST’s inhouse commissioning team remotely configured the software to meet our requirements - including who goes where and when, through which doors, the reporting we need and integration to our fire alarm system. Thanks to this we have saved the cost of two days labour on install!

KST has once again exceeded all expectations with their outstanding service. Safety is our number one priority for both our Post Masters and customers, therefore we are always on the lookout for new technologies and new ideas. Morphean platforms, along with the installation and maintenance provided by KST, has been the perfect decision for us due to our existing knowledge of their excellent services and competitive prices.

Security Programme Manager - Post Office Ltd

The mobilisation was smooth with little involvement required from ourselves. Communication, in particular, has been extremely strong with regular meetings. Monthly management information has been circulated and Clipper are using the real time management information that KST have provided with their DYMENSiON software. We also have working action plans on each site focusing on improvements and change management. All in all I would be happy to recommend KST to any company looking at contract award; our experience has been very positive and I am happy to endorse them.

Head of Bonded & Secure Operations - Clipper

The whole process of mobilisation and onboarding to KST was conducted in an exceptional manner, from start to finish. The preparation for the move between City Plumbing Supplies and KST was comprehensive. Collaboration was very good. The days of transfer were event free and smooth - with no major issues. The branches’ onboarding onto the KST system during the 12 weeks following the mobilisation was completed fully with excellent communication sessions conducted on a weekly basis. We are now looking forward to a long and effective partnership with KST.

We’ve been delighted with the partnership between ISS and KST and the approach to transferring the access control contract. The teams have gelled quickly to understand our estate and we’ve seen significant service improvements.

Head of Security - Santander Bank

Everything from the initial engagement with Quidvis to meeting the Fire Risk assessor on site, to receiving all the reports back in the SLA timeframe was second to none. The communication throughout the whole process has been so easy and the working relationship does not stop there. We now have one central system where we can view reports, add relevant building certificates and policies. Colleagues can access this incredibly user-friendly system and navigate with ease. I have been informed by several colleagues how easy the portal is to use. Even those less tech savvy have been more than impressed.
