Head of Learning and Development

Key Purpose of the Job: 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Learning and Development, with a strong background in having built a Learning & Development function in a fast-paced environment, and a proven track record of delivering high quality learning strategies and programmes.

This is a standalone role, hands on role (with some support), you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive learning strategies that align with our organization’s goals and objectives. The role is to focus on providing high-quality, added value training solutions across the Group and equip staff with the knowledge, practical skills, and motivation to carry out work-related tasks. Help with ongoing, long-term improvement of employees’ skills, enabling them to fulfill their potential within their organisation.

The successful candidate will need to action a training needs analysis to identify what needs to be prioritised and evolved as the business continues to change. In a Head of L&D role, you will provide day-to-day management, direction and coaching to the Group.

Key Job Responsibilities: 

  • You will work closely with the Chief HR Officer to devise and execute a training strategy for the Group, which supports the organisation long – term growth and talent management objectives.
  • Designing and delivering engaging training programs including e-learning courses, workshops, webinars, and blended learning approaches for today’s needs but also anticipating future skills gaps.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of innovative and impactful learning programs, including leadership development, technical training, soft skills development, and onboarding initiatives.
  • You will Partner with HR and department managers to identify skill gaps, development needs, and high-potential employees, creating tailored development plans to support career progression
  • Lead the learning and development aspects of organizational change initiatives, ensuring employees have the skills and knowledge to adapt to new processes, technologies, or strategies
  • Manage the learning and development budget, allocating resources strategically to optimize the impact of programs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • You will manage our engineering trainee program and future graduate program
  • Working with the compliance team ensuring that statutory training requirements are met
  • Coordinating all aspects of the training cycle from learning needs analysis, design, and delivery through to assessment and evaluation
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with external training vendors, consultants, and partners to ensure high-quality and cost-effective learning solutions.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, going to meetings, and attending relevant courses.
  • Perform audits of services and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Implement and act in accordance with the organisations information security policies
  • Protect assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference
  • Implement particular security processes or activities, as requested by management

  • Certifications such as CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) or similar PTLLS, Train the Trainer.
  • Forward thinking, familiar with industry trends and best practices in learning and development.
  • Strong understanding and Management of apprenticeship schemes and frameworks

Desirable Requirements for the Job: 

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven track record of at least 5 years in learning and development, in a leadership or managerial role.
