Karen began work at David Browns on 31st July 1972 at the age of 16, whilst the company was still owned by the Brown family.
She began as a clerical trainee along side her identical twin sister Yvonne and this caused untold problems, due to the fact that no one could tell them apart and they worked in different departments.
Karen had a wonderful 32 years working for the company, firstly as a clerical trainee with 2 training placements, in telex and as assistant to the secretary of the Manager of the Keithley Gears section.
She was then promoted over the years in various secretarial positions, initially as a shorthand typist until she was promoted to the position of Secretary to the Director of Industrial Relations and Administration and his team.
Upon the closure of the Personnel Department, Karen was transferred to the position of Switchboard Operator/Receptionist as part of a team of three.
Due to a retirement and cost restraints, the reception/switchboard function was outsourced and down sized leaving Karen as the face and the voice of David Brown.
In April 2011, the contract changed to a new service provider and along with the Security team, she joined the happy bunch at Kings.
She was joined at her presentation by her husband, 2 sisters, brother-in-law and 2 young nephews and about 100 friends and colleagues who work at the David Brown site.
A short biography was presented by the Director of Technology, Mr Graham Penning OBE and Karen was presented with a ruby, diamond and white gold pendant necklace, Vouchers for the Titanic spa, Diorella perfume, flowers and a card from all at David Brown, she also received a card, voucher and flowers from Kings.
David Brown Gear Systems is also to treat her too as she is still one of their biggest assets.
Sincerest congratulations from us all Karen.
