City of Edinburgh Council | Protecting Our Future Generation

Protecting our future generationCompleted this summer and on time, Kings Security Systems Limited have been working on a particularly high profile project for The City of Edinburgh Council (COEC).

Yet another great project to add to the portfolio of Public Sector clients. Brian Ross, Account Manager, says, “Once we had won this contract we knew that the opportunity was there to influence and develop the designs of the security and safety systems required. We used our specialist knowledge to improve the designs and made sure that the new primary school was supplied with the best solution.”

We developed the designs alongside the professional design team, main contractors and the electrical contractor and providing COEC with a blueprint to use for future projects of this kind. The intruder alarm systems with remote signalling and access control systems incorporate electro-mechanical locking systems, complying with current emergency escape legislation.

The Redhall Primary School project was a complete new build and is the latest addition to the Education Estate in Edinburgh. It consists of two separate but adjacent buildings on the same site, the school itself and a separate building used for both school and community purposes. The design and installation of the access control system and especially the electro-mechanical locking system was a challenge to Kings.

We had to provide both safety and security for the children during core school hours and at the same time meet emergency escape requirements. Particularly with the public who are not familiar with the access control system and the operation of the escape equipment.

Kings Security achieved this using a Borer access control system, operating in conjunction with a combination of electro-mechanical Solenoid locks and panic hardware. One particular requirement of the overall system design was to install a simple to operate, fail safe method of overriding the access control and electronic side of the electro-mechanical escape equipment, during specific periods of time, without compromising the security of the building. In other words we were being asked to keep the people inside safe, providing them with a simple method of escape and we have successfully managed to achieve this.

Kings are experts in supplying fully integrated security solutions comprising of access control systems, intruder alarm systems, CCTV systems, intercom and video intercom systems, staff attack systems, disabled toilet systems and has one of the most technologically advanced monitoring stations in the country. This year saw the opening of Kings state-of-the-art monitoring facility where a skilled team and the latest technologies combine to provide fast response times and complete support for staff and customers. Redhall School is now connected to the monitoring facility utilising DualCom dual path signalling, the first building within the COEC Estate to be connected using this method of signalling.
