The Cooperative ‘Dinner at The Captains Table’ that took place on the 1st December 2011, had promised to be an excellent evening of glamour and entertainment and it surpassed all expectations as a truly vibrant yet elegant and sophisticated evening.
The Cooperative Charity Christmas Ball was a special evening of fundraising. This year’s chosen charity was ‘Mencap ENABLE Scotland’ and a staggering £402,000 was raised on the night.
1200 people attended the event which began with a drinks reception themed as a dockside with seagulls flying above, pubs, cafes and shops around the edge and a themed bar in the middle.
Once the call to dinner was announced, ticker tape was released and guests entered the magnificent ballroom over gang planks.
The ballroom contained seven crystal chandeliers and was surrounded by portholes. The main focal point was the stage area, which was in keeping with the ship.
Guests were entertained by roving actors, the Vernan sisters (singing trio), a performance from The Lady Greys Dancers, to the sounds of ‘The Savoy Dance Orchestra’, ‘The Bogus Brothers’ and even ‘The Coop Brass Band’!
In addition Will Young, now celebrating his 10 year anniversary since winning Pop Idol 2001, performed all his latest hits for the crowd and drew everyone to the dance floor.
A most enjoyable and memorable evening was had by all!
